This thread is for CDG map videos.

I'll start the ball rolling with this excellent, small, fast and fun map by yoz

CDG MINI GAME by yoz303303

How'd you get rid of the display around the edges for dedicated mode while recording? Id you just zoom in and stretch the middle area to full screen?

Nice video  too. Cheesy

Exactly that's what I would've done too...
If you wouldn't wanna zoom in, there'd be another method as well, which is adding black bars and putting them to the top and bottom of the screen.

I used VirtualDubMod to crop the top and bottom. The only trouble is it results in extreme widescreen effect - something like 2.40:1. I thought it had uploaded to YouTube like this, but somehow it's ended up being squeezed into 4:3 aspect ratio.
I will have to go back to the drawing board with this one - I'm not happy with the way it is now.
Plus, I tried to minimally compress the video to make uploading to YouTube quicker, but that has reduced the quality too much....phew, so much to learn, hope my tired old brain doesn't crash Cheesy

I probably will add letterbox bars to correct this, I'm not too keen on them personally, but I think it's the only solution really,  YouTube doesn't seem to like widescreen.

lol, thanks yoz, but perhaps Michael Winner is a more appropriate comparison  Grin

As yoz says, any requests for map videos - post them here  Smiley

YouTube doesn't seem to like widescreen.

In your video tags, type "yt:stretch=16:9".
That should fix it.

Thanks Undead, I've done that and it has worked. Smiley

I'll try to improve the quality also.

I've completely re-edited (shortened) Yoz's map video, corrected the aspect ratio and improved the quality. Smiley

Here is the video of CDG TurnOver - created by yoz, and his entry in the B3E SP natural TOTM comp.

Nice video, I like the logo use.  Whatever video editor you use seems to be pretty good.  The picture even seems more clear.

What kind of computer do you have Yoz?

Mine's a fairly old dell with not so great specs. It laggs when I try to capture in 640 x 480 so I gotta bump it down a bit for smooth recording.  I think if I mess with some setting I can get it right.

Mine is a custom built rig - I must stress that I'm definitely not an expert - I was really surprised how easy these things are to build. They go together like Lego  Grin I bought a 'How to...' book - read it from cover to cover, bought the bits the book told me too, and hey presto....a working PC  Smiley
It's not a real high-flier - but I did spend a chunk on the processor, an intel Q6600 quad core cpu, which has dramatically decreased the time spent waiting for video to render. The rest of the bits are standard, low-end graphics card (nvidia 9800), 4 gig of not-so-fast DDR2 RAM (very cheap now) standard 500 gig HDD etc.

I've learned that it's not all about processing power or RAM when it comes to video rendering (although it helps to have loads of both Smiley ), it's about time and settings.
My laptop which is puny by comparison, can do exactly the same job, but it takes much longer to do it, and my software has a smart rendering setting (which I'm sure most video editors have) which means it won't re-encode the captured video when it's exported, thus retaining the original picture quality.
Too many processes between capture and export can ruin the quality - which was illustrated recently with yoz's CDG MINI GAME video - the first one was awful, I had put that through three processing stages, and it practically destroyed it. Then I found a way to avoid it and get the captured video straight into the editor without any need for unnecessary processing - and the results are excellent.

If you're looking to buy a new PC yoz, and one which you intend to use for video editing, I would say get the fastest processor you can find in your budget, that will decrease the rendering time much more than stuffing it full of RAM, or fancy graphics cards etc.
Although I enjoyed building my PC, I wouldn't do it again - a full system restore is a nightmare beyond all nightmares - Every component driver has to be individually installed, in the right order, whereas an 'off the shelf' PC, it's all taken care of on one disc-plus it's cheaper nowadays to buy ready-built.

Of course, if moneys no object - you could buy a fully loaded Mac Pro and Adobe CS4 Master Collection - a snip at $20,000  Shocked Grin........I really need to win the lottery Grin
