The PSN has been out for nearly a week. Here's something that sounds really bad.

If you entered fake data during the PSN registration, then you can be sure to get away with no losses. Thank god I never entered my actual information there.

Worst case scenario: 90% of the user data has been compromised and Sony goes bankrupt.

This is very troubling...as Sony never thought to encrypt the users data on their end. All your personal data including credit card info was plain text.

According to Anonymous, the group that hacked PSN, they got the access to free PSN games from a Sony employee. Anon was able to hack user data using this 'backdoor' that was given to them.

Not to mention the fact that Anon reported last week the exact format and data they were able to obtain, and yet Sony only mentioned today that the data had been comprised.

Serious black eye for Sony, and this will have big ramifications for their PSN economy IMO.

How dirty... Tongue  Grin

Still, this a major issue for Sony. This could be absolutely crippling to their business. Who knows how this is gonna end up.

But it's not bothering me and me failing PS3. I'll say that I am enjoying my Xbox quite a bit right about now. lol

As I've suggested, in the worst case they go bankrupt.

I'm googling for PSN every 30 minutes as of now, there are tons of articles concerning the outage and it's reason, and one author wrote that he believes this could've only happened due to Sony employees being incautious and sloppy, whereas I seem to be not the only one who believes that there's a traitor working at Sony.

Sony claims they didn't know any details until yesterday. They were performing some analysis for several days (after learning that there was an intrusion) and found out that data might have been compromised on Monday.

I've read that the British government would want to get involved too. So there's hope that the hackers will be caught and sued pretty fast.

I highly doubt that, considering PSN is far from their largest income source. (probably, I wouldn't know)
Even still, I even doubt that PSN will be down forever. They're a business that needs to make money. They'll find a way to make things work somehow.

I guarantee they've lost a lot of customers though. Tons of people certainly feel that their trust has been misplaced.

Sony probably is still hurting from the tsunami, this only makes matters worse. I do feel sorry for them.
Though a lot of people say it's their own fault and should have taken better security measures, I don't know.

We're talking about a total of over 24 billion dollars they would have to pay incase they get sued and lose. And then as you said, I don't think many customers are gonna trust Sony anymore. My advice to all new customers of Sony would be to think twice or more before exposing one's personal data.

Betcha, if the current PSN customers who entered their actual information could turn back time, they'd do it in a second and would NOT give it to them a second time, or enter some fake data.

I, as someone who has been careful enough with personal information on the internet, have entered fake data exclusively. This debacle once again proves that it's DANGEROUS to provide your personal data on the internet. Blind trust is not good.

PSN will be up by next tuesday they claimed.

I'm of the opinion that to a certain degree it is Sony's fault.

Not at the moment. They're apparently overhauling it completely. They're implementing some new security system along with some new features.

Makes me wonder why they didn't think about stabilizing their network security earlier, for f** sake!

Now is the time (if ever) to implement some fancy new features. Specifically ones to help compete with xbox live. I've come to like the features of xbox live and it's party system, cross-game voice chat, play music during any game... Plus the quality of voice chat is significantly better on xbox as well. The main reason for some new features is to try and win back the large number of customers they've lost.

Apparently from what I've heard about the break-in, the stuff that the hackers gained access to wasn't even encrypted and was more or less just sitting open on some server. Now that's pretty bad.

Unless it takes a while before I get a new PS3, I'll probably give PSN a break even after it comes back on to just watch and see if there are any more issues after they set it back up. I'd recommend you do the same even if you don't use your real data.

That's exactly the stuff they were thinking about, if I got it right. Not that it was of any necessity as far as I am concerned, though, as I've never been using voicechat in games. What really would be cool is a textchat that can be used directly within games without having to switch to the chat window, which can be a quite annoying process, especially on games like SR2.

Despite all that crap that is happenng, PS3 is still better than 360. Okay, on 360 voice quality is better. What else? Okay, maybe something crucial for you: There are Halo games. Tongue
But that's pretty much it. Xbox sounds like a hoover. The text chat system on Xbox sucks. The ridiculous fact that you have to pay for online play sucks. The menus suck. Usability sucks. Hardware dies fast, in other words: it sucks. The controller handling sucks. The controller itself... sucks. The video outputs suck. Side functions like transfering media sucks. No internet browser sucks.
That list would probably fit an entire book.

And as I said, I think it is Sony's fault to a degree. They should've thought about improving their network security earlier.

Been kinda bored in the past time still. Had an internship for 2 weeks, which meant no homework and therefore a bit more time for gaming, especially on Easter... kinda frustrating. I should've probably gone outside to get some fresh air instead of wasting my free time by doing literally nothing. lol. Except maybe writing music a little. And doing that SR2 machinima, which was not a big effort I'll admit.

Well actually... The old model 360s were pretty bad. I really like my slim. It makes almost no fan noise at all, even less than my laptop and way less than my PS3. Text chat does suck, but is pointless if you use voice chat. Menus are "okay," usability is alright once you get used to it. I just love the PS3 menus though, no denying that. Paying for online play... well, it doesn't bother me. I'll see about the hardware, as with the PS3 slim, the 360 slim is supposed to have better design and especially cooling to prevent hardware failures. No, I don't like the controller. The batteries hold a garbage amount of charge and the whole things is extra heavy. I hate the buttons, d-pad, top triggers, start and select, and layout of the controller. I like the PS3's controller much better except I think the control sticks could have more resistance than they do (like the 360s  Grin ) I don't know what you mean about video outputs, I've got all the same stuff as PS3... Transferring media is annoying but it's nice that I can play straight from my USB. This is also good as I use my USB in my car too. And don't even bother about internet browser, the one on PS3 is so garbage I can barely keep it from freezing every 30 minutes.

There are a lot of things about the 360s menus that just operate much smoother than PS3. I like that it doesn't take about 2 minutes to load my friends up when I sign in. (like PS3 does) Somehow game updates are much smaller and much faster. And the whole system doesn't update once a month so I'm not bothered with that. Plus the XMB on PS3 gets really laggy when you bring it up during an intense game. The 360s is more minimal so it does that less.

Overall the 360 has a bunch of nice features. Plenty of them could be sweet additions to PS3.
It's not my favorite system, but it's far from garbage in my opinion. Smiley
I do wish it had more games that I'd like though. But then again, there aren't a ton of games coming out right now that I really like for any system. Sad

Well not everyone wants to use voicechat. That's why it's not pointless. And I don't think MS would have any problems implementing that.

It bothers millions of people along with me and it's been one of the main arguments for why Xbox is worse than the PS3.

Really don't know why you're into 360 that much, and all of a sudden. lol

You could go for PC and check out cool stuff there. Lots of open source stuff that actually plays awesome. I've downloaded a free game a short while ago which had a very nice campaign mode.

As for the PSN outage: Sony confirmed that the data of another 22 million customers has been stolen as a result of someone hacking Sony Online Entertainment servers. They promised that PSN would be restored this week, but it seems that there's gonna be a delay.

Bottom line: If we get to play on PSN this month, we're lucky.
