I've never used the snap tool.
I was holding one of the L or R buttons and hit the button you normally hit to duplicate and it lowered the piece I had selected just a hair.

I'd have to play around with the snap tool to see how it works.  I've just never taken the time to figure it out.  It's probably just to make sure your angles are perfect so things line up better.  But I always lay objects (ex: platform03) flat, upside down flat, and at the angle for walls, all measured off of each other so my buildings stay square, etc.

Not very long.  Just a lot of pressing "select" so I can run through it to make sure it worked.
After all, I only made one leg and duplicated the rest.  I think.  I'll have to go back and check my map making video.  I have the making of that one in time-lapse on the cdeezgames youtube channel.  Along with the making of Claustrophobia.

Yoz,

The first thing u need to do every time u start editor, is turn off all those options in settings, like auto camera and autosnap and stuff like that.

With auto camera off, u can be more precise. Also in edit mode, u say ur slection moves up and down a bit, check out the icon wich is a house with arrow in or ontop, try switching those and see what happens, the movement up and down is due to the raised/lowerd ground ur crossing with ur selection.

U should try out everything in a test map.

For instance , did u know u can draw a box in select mode to select every item in the box. When in selection mode, use unlock cursor then draw a box by holding down R2(I think) and moving the analogstick to draw a box.

I don't use snapping tools, when creating fences just turn autosnap on again.

So just try out stuff and u'll be surprised at what u can actually do Smiley

You can also press L2 to draw a deselection box.
Which is very useful when you have an item that is just barely protruding from the surface of something (ground, whatever).  You can use R2 to draw a selection box to include all the items in that direction.  (also very handy to get below items and draw the box)  But when you have all of the stuff selected, draw the deselection box with the L2 button to deselect the items that you don't want selected simply by drawing a box over those items.

I find the snap tool useful for creating perfect circles with fence pieces - varying the degrees (5, 10 etc) and the size of the pieces you can create circles or arcs of varying radii.

Also auto-snap makes levelling non-snap pieces very easy, a perfectly flat, level (flat side up) platform 3 is normally quite difficult and time consuming to achieve, but using snappable colonial fence pieces (which snap upside down too), this can be done in seconds Smiley

Check out that Tutorial from the link above, this explains the Snap Tool and how it is used.
I find it a pain in the butt because I don't use it enough but if you play around with this and get familiar I think it could be very quick and accurate when map building.

Shame it is a limited to certain objects - mostly fences.
