This is an update to MK1's map called Trade Winds. I had always liked the visuals and theme behind this map, but had an different idea for it. I asked MK if he would be interested an update and, fortunately, he agreed to work on it with me. It's named after the old PC strategy game (Port Royale: Gold, Power, and Pirates).

The original map was great, and the visuals were excellent. What we did was change the layout, thus changing the way it plays. Previous map had two villages on either side of the island. We basically moved the colonists village to the center of the map. There are two native villages now just outside the main town that are the bases, and the town is the battleground. Also, we docked one of the large ships, and added a smaller 'pirate' ship.

Hosted the beta version several times this weekend, and it played quite well. Give it a try and let us know what you think. It supports all game modes, and gameplay styles. The map is published under psn: fcmaps_net

i played 2 rounds on it yesterday and i must say yet another fine map for the FC2 community!!
i really hope you stick whit it for a few more months and bring us some more quality maps....
don't know what the thing whit ubi is all about but that's not why you bought the game in the first place...
when crysis2 is out we can all come together for a ceremonial funeral  Grin
and i do hope crysis2 dev. are taking notice of the flaws fc2 and ubi has left us whit....
i`m happy to c that the characters look realistic in the crysis2 demo and not some gummy dude.....
when i just bought the game i played your maps and hope to do so till the end.. you are truly a inspiration for any beginning mapper
and i am sure only good things will come from this in the future, your name is well known around the world becouse of this game and thats something ubi did gave you......

After having a game on this, I found it plays very well. Very fun for most classes but given the layout, snipers might have a harder time of it since the update. That's no worry though, sniping should be a challenge, not a load of free kills on unsuspecting players. Wink

Details are great while not being trashy looking. That one large building looks a bit out of place seeing as it's the only one of it's kind in the map.  Everything else is made of wood and it's made of concrete so it stands out as odd even if it would've fit in a scenario like that anyway.

I do love the ships, I didn't spend much time on them, but they look cool regardless. Tongue

Thanks yoz, was good to see you and bongo in there. Hope you got to play my Surf War map too...I'm really enjoying that one alot. I will host the totm maps some more this weekend too.

Yoz, I do appreciate the fact that Ubi gave us FC2 with the editor. Of all the great titles released then(Bioshock, LBP, Fallout 3, Resistance 2, COD:WAW, Guitar Hero WT), I only expected to get thru the story mode in FC then move on. When I found the editor and started playing around with it, it was like crack. I couldn't stop, and I know that's how many of you feel too.

What frustrates me the most is that the game had such potential, and some simple changes/updates could've have made it so much better. We're actually lucky we got what we did based on Clint Hocking's post mortem report. Development of the online aspect for this game was a cluster f***, and it showed. BTW, Clint Hocking just resigned from Ubisoft, so his creative talent will not be part of FC3.

I won't go into specifics, but Ubi developers promised much more ongoing support than what we got. I don't blame the devs, because they were shifted to new titles. This is why I say Ubi's business model is to blame. Once they get their profits they move on and leave a community that needs support hanging. I don't blame anyone who committed to FC2 that now takes a 'wait and see' approach to FC3.

FC2 map editor is great and there's no doubt I got my $$ worth many times over. I've been terribly fortunate with my maps, and the response to them has been amazing. I'm very appreciative of you and everyone else that has enjoyed them. That's why I make them, and will continue to make them on whatever game I can.

Oh and I updated the Port Royale map again, did all the spawns again and added a bit of cover.  Grin

Neg - I wanted something to break up that wood city look a bit. I could've used a colonial building but I wanted something a bit cleaner...those larger ones all look beat to hell.

Thankyou max for hosting, and for putting my map in the rotation, I will try to catch your Surf War map this weekend.

I really enjoyed Port Royale, very well put together and the pirate ships are superb.
Whilst trying to avoid a sniper dug in on the beach, I briefly teamed up with a 'stealth squad', and we went house to house around the back to flank the sniper and exterminate lol - that was the most fun I've had in ages, my heart was really racing as we all crept door to door taking out enemies as they popped up and saving fallen comrades, taking turns on point etc - fantastic match, I only wish I could have stayed longer.

I've been terribly fortunate with my maps, and the response to them has been amazing. I'm very appreciative of you and everyone else that has enjoyed them. That's why I make them, and will continue to make them on whatever game I can.

You're far too modest max Wink your extraordinary maps and supreme skills have been an inspiration to us all - long may you continue to school us in quality map-making Smiley despite ubi's lack of support/interest.
