I'm working on my final solo map on FC2. I've got a few co-op maps projects that are in progress, but this will be the last maxpower map. It's been fun mapping again for the last month or so, but I think I've done all I can do with this editor.

I decided to do another re-make, this time of one of my favorite movies - Gangs of New York. It features the five points area with side streets, and Paradise Square in the center. This map is about 75% complete, and still keeping the meter out of the red. Mostly ground details to complete. I'm not sure how it will play but not too concerned about it. The structures are 100% custom, and built to match the set from the movie. It should be wrapped up in the next week.

Ah man.  Last map?  Are you holding out for the FC3 editor?

We'll see about FC3. Ubi has burned some bridges with me...you know what I'm talking about. Their support is a joke so I plan to be completely underwhelmed if there is a FC3. I'm probably going to do another PC map for FC2 with the new stuff in the editor. I also have Call of Juarez, which has a map and scenario editor that I want to mess with more.

Yeah, the map site doesn't even count plays anymore that I can see.  And they haven't ranked any more maps since that last bunch.  I would have expected at least another dozen ranked user maps by now.

I told the dev about that map count problem in late January. They updated it once then, but it appears its only being done manually now. I asked him about the ranked maps back in October, and he said that things had slowed down (he was on AC2 team I believe) and that they would be doing another big round soon. Not much more I can tell you, that's why I not enthusiastic about them getting it right for FC3.

I agree.  If they're not going to support it, then it won't work.

Don't blame you mate if that's the case........I personally never really try and contact them about anything because I hear they are useless all the time and I just play for playings sake, love of the Editor (for all it's failings) and have met some great people online through it. Smiley

Although I was never a fan of the film "Gangs Of New York" that map is looking awesome, bet it's way better made than the film, Smiley going out with a bang eh Cheesy

I've been toying with the idea of picking FC2 up on PC as well, just to see things you can do on it, the editor is far superior from what I've read.

I expect your maps to fill the void when I'm done  Grin ...and I'm sure they will do that just fine, but thanks for the kind words.

I'll still be around the game and sites, and will gladly co-op some projects if I have time. Tomorrow starts my BFBC2 journey, which I've been waiting on like most were waiting on MW2. With GOW3, Dragon Age:Awakenings, GTA add-ons, and Red Dead Redemption coming out also, I will be busy til summer at least.

Oh and here's some updated pics of the Gangs of New York map...almost ready to go

Well I'm sure when that wears out, you'll be back to make some BF:BC2 maps for us.

I also have Call of Juarez, which has a map and scenario editor that I want to mess with more.

I'm assuming only PC version has it. If the PS3 version had it, I'd buy it in a second.

But yes, FC3 if anything like the support for FC2 will fail utterly. Our total devotion to the editor and the entire lack of any other editors on the PS3 is the only thing keeping this alive.

It's Crysis2 and Timesplitters 4 (if they ever make it) for me.

BF:BC2 looked sweet in the beta and I think it'll be a ton better than MW2 in terms of long term playability. I might get it as I enjoyed the first Bad Company.

Seriously, more games need a map/level editor, all the ones that do have a large following and a ton of great maps. Just look at the huge success of LBP and soon to be Modination Racers. If sony keeps this Play/create/share thing up one of them is gonna be a shooter and I can guarantee you I'll be there.

Yep, COJ editor is the PC version only, but its alot more in depth than the FC editor (ChromeEd editor). You can create the terrain, layout, and AI. You can control how the AI reacts when you interact with it...make SP scenario maps or new MP maps. I've played with it enough to realize the possibilities, plus it's good to learn the ChromeEd editor.

I almost wish they would release FC3, then sell the editor separate. This would limit alot of the junk maps in the system, make them more $$, and allow a larger, more robust editor because its not packaged with the game (360 limitations). If they just had spent time on the FC2 MP mechanics it would have been a winner. It plays like Red Faction from PS2, in fact RF might have handled a bit better.

If Crysis2 makes it to PS3 I'm sure I'll be on that too. Never played Timesplitters so don't know what I'm missing there. I never cared much for LBP, and Modnation has some issues to work out in the editor before I'll join in on that. You are right tho...if someone realizes the potential for the level creation thing with a good MP, it will be an epic win.

Sorry to hear you're hanging up your spurs max, Gangs of New York looks extremely good, I've seen the film a few times - mainly for Cameron Diaz if I'm honest Wink - Scorcese hasn't made a bad film yet imo. Looking forward to you publishing soon.

I think I'm gonna have to get this - that editor sounds awesome

That is so right, if only this could happen
