Why do you like that particular type of map?  Do you prefer it well lit or dim or completely dark?

I like custom complex creations with different sides that don't have advantages over each other.  This way you don't see a lot of the same stuff.  I prefer the lighting to be at any angle but straight up, but not in any one sides eyes unless that side has a slight advantage in another way.  The lighting on the Cirque du Slaughter level had to be moved from noon so you could see inside the wheel.  Or it was just too dark to navigate without falling to your death.

Really tricky question.

I voted for complex creations, because it is quite interesting to see what people think up (and then build). It is even better when they figure out a way to make their creation a well-balanced team event.

Symmetrical maps, while they may look good, are sometimes boring (depending on the premise of the map). If it is something as simple as a road with houses on either side, it almost seems to be the easy way out of making a map. So much more can be done to make the map yours, not another generic town / landscape.

I am a big fan of real world things built into games, so those maps have a special appeal to me.

For indoor or outdoor maps though, that is really hard to say. I guess if the map is well built, I'll probably enjoy it.

I voted complex creations.

I have notised that friends of mine who aren't making maps, don't care how complex the creations are. They are only thinking about the gameplay (anyway, gameplay really is most important).

I don't like symetrical design so much, even though I've made some symetrical maps myself.
In time they get boring.

I agree. I'm tired of playing in those small town maps.
There's no new or interesting about them.
I don't get impressed if I see them. I just think "Oh! heres another town map......lame!"
It's so boring with the same old houses and stuff all the time.

They can be a little fun to play in, but not for long.

i like original crazy maps, but the fun doesn't last long if the gameplay sucks  Undecided

I just don't like garbage. Other than that, I try to play maps of all varieties.

I hate maps with no sunlight. The sunlight adds so much detail and shadow to the game that without it, the graphics tend to suffer a bit.

I like maps that are well lit, unenclosed, and the two bases have different advantages.

I just played a unique map recently, there was one wooden fort in the middle, and it was surrounded by jungle that rose over it, one team could attack from the forest while one defended.

What I think is most important about a map is vairety on both sides, while still balanced... A way which I would call 'Semi-Symmetric'.

For example to this, I would take uhm.... well Greenpoint Beach for Example. as the level is symmetric in big lines, but different if you look closer...

Those I like best, and I hate those War-like maps people are making or other levels from other games... Sure if its a good level thats ok, but actually you're stealing the idea of someone else then, and just get away with the glory...

Exceptions are however when you only look to them as inspiration and then twist it to your own creations...

I like easy to navigate maps, with lots of different routes, so there is no need for camping.
The spawnpoints should also be spread out and placed behind cover.
Also the maps shouldn't be too big, unless it's made for snipers.

I also like custom buildings, when ever I try to make a "natural" map I always end up thinking
it's to easy to just choose buildings and set them up with some details, so I wind up making the
map look more like an arena Smiley

Currently making a city map(Beirut), I'm gonna need to do my best to top the other city maps like the may potm winner.
