Reality is where the pizzaman comes from.

My all-time favorite FPS. I'm playing Doom 2 for 11 years and it still does not get boring. It's available as freeware by now.

As for Doom 3, it was more of a horror shooter, but nowhere as good as Doom 1 and 2.

I'd love to get it, but all the versions I can find for free have viruses and trojans and all that crap.

If you have a trustworthy site you know of, or a link for a download, I'd love it.

I used to play Doom a bunch myself a while ago, but got rid of the PC it was on, and lost the disc. Sad

Never played doom 2 or 3 though.

Doom 2 is like Doom, but has more weapons, enemies, levels. It runs under the same engine. Doom 3 sucks compared to Doom 1 and 2.

Here's the Doom 2 link:
http://www.pixelrage.org/download/Doom-2-Full-Free-Game-Download-3760.html

To play it on any Windows version, you need a Doom source port. I'd highly recommend Skulltag:
http://www.skulltag.net
It adds many features (including online gameplay, new guns, the ability to jump, improved graphics)

Unrar the Doom 2 folder, install Skulltag. Then simply run the file "Doom2.WAD" using Skulltag. You don't need the other files. After starting the game you should customize the controls and tweak some graphics settings.

I'll update this as soon as I find a good Doom 1 link as well. It also runs under Skulltag.

Glad to hear it works.

What difficulty level did you play it on?

BTW: On skulltag.net you can find several map editors for Doom. I do not have any experience with em yet though.

I was playing on "Hurt me much" I think, or whatever the middle difficulty was.

I went through 5 or 6 levels before I remembered a cheat that one of my friends had used about 10 years ago, not sure how or why I remembered, but it worked. (Invincibility, and the all weapons one.)

So I was mucking around with the BFG 9000. Cheesy Totally epic gun. though I do enjoy the rail gun too.

It's an awfully dark game, I can barely see most of the time, I don't remember the first one being dark at all...

Unfortunately my PC isn't quite good enough to run the editor. Sad

I tried to play some multiplayer, but it said I had a different .WAD file than the host, so I couldn't play.

It had cooperative? Is that like straight Co-op for it or some other side game mode?

Hurt me plenty, lol. That was my favorite level back then, today it's Ultra Violence. Nightmare level is too heavy. Couldn't go further than level 2 without cheats. It's like 10 difficulty levels more than Ultra Violence.

There is not a single cheat for everything is there? I remember IDDQD (invincibility) and IDKFA (give all guns, keys, armor, refresh ammo). Yeah the railgun is something for snipers. Cheesy A skulltag bonus gun. The plasma gun is awesome too. Those plasma balls are fast as hell.

If it's too dark maybe change the brightness. It is darker than Doom 1, but not THAT dark, maybe only in a few levels.

As for the multiplayer thing: They're using mods. Talking about mods, have a go at this:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=13852
This adds lots of weapons to mess around with.

Download the WAD file, run it using skulltag. Note that the original DOOM2.WAD needs to be in the same folder. Also note that you cannot run 2 or more WADs at the same time. It might suck on one hand but it might be helpful on the other hand, especially in case you downloaded a mod you don't like, or simply want to switch back to the original Doom by just running the original Doom2.WAD.

These seem to be like bubble gum: it comes in ".WADs" and you shouldn't used more than one at a time. Tongue

Yes, those were the cheats I was using. I misstyped the singular version of the word. lol

I'll check out the mod. Smiley

Now if only this game had a dart rifle...

LOL. You actually made me type in "doom 2 dart gun WAD" in Google.
Didn't find anything. Not that I'd expect something, lol.  Tongue

The wrw.WAD though includes a silent pistol.  Tongue And a scopeless sniper rifle.
Oh and it also has a magnum in it.

EDIT: Just found a newer version of the weapon resource WAD. It includes a flare gun, a grappling hook  Cheesy  Shocked and much more. I'll playtest this tomorrow.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MM0W7I2P

EDIT2: It does not work with skulltag - I'm trying to edit the WAD file to get rid of that problem. You'll either have to run the older version of the WAD, which I posted above, or use a different Doom source port.

EDIT3: I have edited the WAD file. You need to remove the value "+NOALERT" in 2 of the lines in the script "DECORATE" using a WAD editor. Playtested it. Awesome. But some of the weapons from the old wrw.WAD are missing. So it's good to have both versions. The grappling hook kicks ass. You can pull an enemy towards you and kick him to the face immediately afterwards. I'll customize some values though to increase it's damage.  Tongue Grapple a Cyberdemon and give him a lethal karate kick.  Tongue

EDIT IV: Also found Doom 1 as a SWF game. Open it with your internet explorer.

Doom 2 is pretty friggin' good by itself, but as Co-op it was a blast. Cheesy

Now I'm gonna search around on that skulltag site for some mods.

I bet you've looked at most of them but I might post likes to my favorites.
I have just found this one that just makes the base doom 2 game way harder. New guns and effects too. In fact, I couldn't beat the first map after three tries. (But that doesn't say much, 'cause I suck. lol)

I found a zombie survival one and a whole slew of new maps for single player and co-op.

Links coming soon.

Affirmative.  Tongue

I have looked at many wads, yeah, and mostly it's the weapon and monster WADs that are awesome. As for the map megawads, there are only a couple (out of a whole bunch) that made me wanna play them more than one time.

I'm currently starting to make some maps myself. The only problem is that I'm a big noob at doom mapping yet. Aside from that it takes LOTS of time.
My first project is going to be called Grand Theft Doom - A huge GTA-style city for some free roaming & monster slashing action.
Turbospheres will be used as vehicles.  Tongue

Problem:
-I don't know how to remove the goddamn ceiling texture and put sky there instead! Lol.
