Now that we've all made it 4 rounds, one full round, in the mapping contests; we should have a final bout between the top 3 maps from each contest.  That would guarantee some great games.

Who else thinks this would be a good idea?

Sounds cool.

Are we gonna vote on them all again?

We're definitely gonna have to play them again. (Not that I don't throw them in the list from time to time.)

A lot of these map ideas sound amazing! : D
haven't been on the site for a while. have made som maps tho. no completed ones, but I've started on a city based map, and i'm making the Forgotten city map i was talking about earlier.
I also have an idea I think would be pretty cool, but pretty difficult too lol. Take a look at this picture; http://www.icmod.com/OurYd.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Norway_Oslo_OperaHouse.jpg
its the Norwegian Opera house, located in Oslo. its pretty cool, would be a cool map, especially if some of the inside area would be playable.

Tell me what you think about making it? Should a make it in a smaller scale to reduce lag and make it more playable, or should I care more about how it looks and make it about the right size?

Hey dude, haven't seen you around in a while.

That pic looks sweet. (You crazy Norwegians.) If the playable area is mostly outside, there isn't much cover out there from what I can see.
If you can find a way to make it without using much glass it'll probably not lag too much. Concrete blocks and platforms will make it look good while running smoothly. Too many colonial fences and glass could potentially hurt its performance.

Looking forward to it.

Wow Metallicamaniac, that would be an awesome map - it's just the sort of thing I like to build too Smiley

I breifly considered making the Sydney Opera House, but with all the curved structures it would have proved too difficult, and no way to use occlusion efficiently either.

I would say the Norwegian Opera House is a much better prospect due to it being mostly flat sides and therefore easier to use occlusion to keep performance in the green and make the interior playable, but as Neg said using too much glass would push performance up towards the red, but you could leave the glass out completely though without it spoiling the looks - in fact the glass is so horrible and dirty, it would probably look better without it Smiley

Scale is always a problem with large structures - the bigger they are the easier they are to build and occlude but the more resources are used which push up the performance, smaller structures are less costly but more difficult due to the size of the pieces and also the use of occlusion.

If I was making that map, I would go with a larger (life size?) structure and try to keep the main building as simple as possible and use occlusion everywhere, so that the interior is playable - but that's just me Wink

BTW, @DEEZ, I'm in agreement for the top three (or four?) maps for each comp. going into a final showdown - as you say it would give us all a chance to focus our map-making skills for the next new TOTM over at FCmaps.

Jeez, that would be epic yoz.

A pier is a great idea though yoz, that particular one may be a bit advanced for FC2 - it could be 'put on a diet' though and made to work. Smiley
