Reality is where the pizzaman comes from.

First of all, credits go to C_H_E_R_U_B1-1 for the idea itself.

Alright, this is simple. Recorded something cool? An incredible stunt? An epic crash? A funny glitch? Show it!

This might be a monthly contest, however I don't know whether a weekly contest would make sense. That's why I posted this poll.

The winner will get an award.  Tongue

It's not cleared who's gonna run the contest yet, but I would say let DEEZ run it.

As a judgement-concept I would suggest the following:

-A poll, in which everyone can vote for the best video. To prevent unfair judging, I would prefer the next method though:
-Three judges discuss what video is the best. Or...
-...the who runs it, judges it. Simple as that. In this case I'd say Deez.

Sounds cool. Neat Idea Cherub.

I don't know about getting Deez to run it. I mean he's probably the best one for it, but we don't wanna lump too much on him at once.  Wink

A video competition would be awesome. I'm already gonna fill my hard drive up with a bunch of random crap. LOL  (Thank goodness for the ability to upgrade)

I'm sure I could (and probably will) have some cool videos every week. But 2 weeks is fine so it doesn't seem too rushed.  Of course, we can still make videos between the events.

But what about submissions? Can we switch ours out for a better one if something amazing happens? There should probably be a limit to how many times (if any) you can switch. Simply to prevent confusion and hassle.

Last question, when's your PS3 gonna be up and running?

Well Deez owns the forum, plus I consider him as a fair judge whose criticism is always constructive.

I would say no switching though. Before submitting a video, you have at least one and a half weeks, which is more than enough for recording multiple times and choosing the best one. Even for editing, it is really more than enough time.

So if you submit a video, be completely sure about it, that's what I would suggest.

We don't want something like this:

Day 1: "I'm gonna enter this video now."
Day 4: "Uh, I made a better one, ditch the other one and let this one in."
Day 6: "Today something totally epic happened and I recorded it, so ditch the previous video"
Day 8: "Please take my previously submitted video from the list, I had two cars glitched inside a 474 today and I even could walk around in it, and I recorded it."
Last day before deadline: "I've tethered a plane to one of these statues spread around Panau in mid-flight and then the statue head swept a 10 man army away, then suddenly an army chopper showed up and I gave the pilot a headshot while in stunt position using the sniper, and then while the chopper was going down, the statue head crashed into it and then the wreck of the chopper fell onto a propane tank, which caused an oil rig to explode. I've recorded all that, so I'd like to enter this video now instead of the other one"

That's why: No switching!

As for my PS3, I still want to fix it but I depend on my dad there as he's got the devices not me.  Tongue

I could most probably do it. Why not.

In case I'd run it, I would say the 24th is deadline, which is in 15 days.

@ Undead, you seem more than qualified to run the comp, you get my vote.

Great idea also (Thanks CHERUB Smiley ), I haven't got very far with the game yet, so I've got a lot to do before I can shoot some interesting video, I may not make the first comp, but definitely the next one.

In game video record FTW  Smiley

Is it MPEG format? If not which format, and is it easy to convert? I have some nifty conversion SW that can cope with most formats except really wierd ones - hope it's not one of those.

You can publish straight to youtube if you like but it saves as MP4 I think. Which I don't think Windows Movie Maker supports for importing. I have a program that came with my capture card and it supports MP4, it's pretty bare bones for editing and really confusing to figure out.

Also, how much editing are we allowed? Are we gonna do one stunt or series of stunts or whatever? Or can I cram as much nonsense as I can into a video?  Grin

I would say, take it easy for the first comp: No limits, just use your imagination, do a sick stunt, an epic fall (or fail  Tongue). Got a new tethering idea? Showcase it in your best way!

The video in the first comp will be judged purely by content, while good editing and cutting gets you a couple of bonus points.

Editing and cutting will be rewarded more in future comps, but as for this particular one, the emphasis is on the content only.

I've got no editing software, and my harddrive on my ps3 is almost full Tongue 40 GB How large are the 30 sec clips u can record(haven't tried it).

And I want to change my HD, but I've read it's best to use a 5400 rpm one rather then a 7200 rpm one, has any of u replaced their HD?

Well a 30 second clip is about 7.5 MB...

A 5400 Rpm is what I got when I upgraded mine. (I've heard same as you but have no real evidence for which is better.) I imagine it'd be best to put a drive that's as close to the same as what was already in there. (Of course not similar in capacity)

Now I've run into a dilemma myself. I've got a huge ton of MP4 files but nothing to edit them with. All those Video file converters look real fishy to me. And my only other option would be to record me watching the videos on my PS3 with my capture card... of course the quality would be awful.

There doesn't seem to be any way to get Windows Movie maker to import MP4 files and I just realized my other program doesn't support MP4 either.

Are there any decent editing programs that I won't have to sell a kidney to get?

lol a 30-sec-video I record on my PC has the size of 530 MB. And of course it tends to lag while video editing.

Well I know Camtasia Studio, which is uber decent, but a bit hardware hungry; it tends to lag a bit with HD videos when I edit them on my comp. It's the one I mostly use in conjunction with WMM (which is very decent for a free program, just to mention that). Camtasia Studio is 300 bucks.

Pinnacle Studio, 40$. It has some good presets and title effects, but tends to lag uber horribly. I don't use that atm and I can't recall whether it supported MP4, but it should.

Adobe After Effects, 600$. The hardware hungriest of all. Very slow, even on my PC, but a stunning program with stunningly awesome effects. You can either choose from hundreds of preset effects or create one yourself. Also very very hard to use.

Adobe Premiere Pro, I can't recall the prize, but I don't have that one. Some others I heard of but never used:
Ulead Studio, Virtual Dub (free), Free Video Dub (also free, supports MP4)

You think we should try a themed competition sometime?

Like say:

Machinima (Undead will win this one for sure. Tongue)

Stunts (or more specific stunts like car stunts, plane stunts, on foot stunts,)

Bone crunching bails. (Probably what happens when you don't quite get the stunts right. Or you could be like me and do it on puurpose.)

Races, how fast can you  finish a race? How perfect can you stick to the checkpoints? Or maybe inserting random stunts into the race.

Combat. Simple ownage.

Explosions. A constant stream of explosions from the begining to the end of the video. (would be awesome to have the 1812 Overature as music.)

Ideas? Any good? Any better themes?

I actually thought of that. And was gonna announce the next theme before the end of the current comp.

You beat me to it with posting, but...

The next theme I would implement is "Anatomy of a Stunt" clips - Ever watched those compact, short stunt trailers by Eidos?
Like for example Mid-Air Sabotage or Tuk-Tuk Guided Missile?

Your turn now. Create one.

Of 15 points you would get
5 for content
10 for editing

Yes, editing is certainly more important on these. If you watch them you'll know why.
