Does anybody know when this game will be coming out?
Not really, some rumors have pointed toward February 2012 or spring 2012. That seems very unlikely though to me. I'm guessing summer to late summer this year at the earliest. Fall seems more likely though, but they'll probably try to avoid releasing when the next CoD comes out.

Releasing it during COD time wouln't actually be wrong imo. It might steal COD's show, if only partially.
Actually though, I suspect there might be a third party intervention: GTA V. I suspect a release in November. I'm almost sure (considering the hype and nearly 11.000.000 trailer views) that GTA V would just dominate on all platforms, completely outselling COD as well as FC3, if those games would be released around the same dates.
To be perfectly honest, I got a feeling GTA V will easily deserve that.

They wouldn't steal CoDs show, they might leach a bit of it. But extra purchases could simply be attributed to the holiday season. Unlike movie releases, games tend to have more of a dead zone during summer. Most big releases wait for November. If you release a big game during a time when there aren't as many other games coming out, then you'll grab much more attention. As for GTA V, I don't know. CoD has still out sold GTA IV by a lot. (MW3 has already outs sold GTA IV as a whole) It may be a few years before CoD falls from its height. Currently, each new release outsells the last and sets records across the board. One of these days either it'll become so re-done and repetitive that no one will care any more. That, or someone will make something else that becomes more popular. (Notice how I didn't say "better?" That's because that's already happened... several times.) GTA V will undoubtedly get the sales and popularity that it deserves. I don't think it'll topple other games though, it's in its own area with open worlds and all that. That's perfectly fine though.

Unlike movie releases, games tend to have more of a dead zone during summer. Since people are on vacation or going out a lot, it's probably more likely they'd go to the cinema instead of playing games. That's my theory, not that I would not game at all during summer. CoD has still out sold GTA IV by a lot. (MW3 has already outs sold GTA IV as a whole) Well the reason for that is: As an open world game, IV wasn't that good. There was way less hype around it than GTA V, and I got a feeling the hype got lessened since they revealed the setting back then; it was the worst idea they could have thought of, to implement LC as a location, because it was already seen often enough in previous GTA games. Now people are expecting a lot from GTA V, the GTA SA fans are coming back (remember that GTA SA was the best selling PS2 game of all times) and Rockstar claimed that it's their most ambitious work so far. Seems like the GTA series will leave a huge mark. Besides, COD is released every year. You cannot count 5 COD games vs 1 GTA game as "COD outsells GTA".

I didn't say that. Any single on of the last three CoD games on one console, has outsold GTA IV on the same respective console. GTA IV PS3: 8.9 million sold MW3 PS3: 9.72 million MW2 PS3: 9.79 million Black Ops PS3: 11.25 million GTA IV 360: 9.4 million sold MW3 360: 11.95 million MW2 360: 12.69 million Black Ops 360: 13.27 million But GTA games from PS2 sold much better. GTA III: 11.60 million GTA VC: 14.2 million GTA SA: 19.16 million Is that to say that GTA IV is worse than those games too? Personally, I think it's just that GTA games aren't quite as big as they used to be, and that CoD has taken over as the giant sales game. Looking down the sales lists, it seems that a lot of the best selling games were open world games. Perhaps they're just not as popular as they used to be. Oh, and for your entertainment, I got the numbers from here. Prepare to weep for the gamers when you see the filth that clutters the top of the charts.

But GTA games from PS2 sold much better. [...] Is that to say that GTA IV is worse than those games too? Yes. GTA IV sold not even half as much as GTA SA. You don't wanna tell me there's no actual reason for that. It seems quite obvious to me that GTA IV was a huge step back from the goodness that the earlier GTAs used to be popular for. Each GTA once used to be different and bring some innovations with it, while GTA IV just felt like a kind of attempt at remaking GTA 3 in HD with a more dramatic story. And since there's less innovative stuff in nowadays open world games overall, of course they'd become less popular. Besides: GTA IV was sold roughly 9 million times. GTA V's first trailer already has roughly 11 million viewers. Multiply the viewers amount by 1.5 and compare that number it to future COD sales. I don't think COD will win, unless R* messes up again (which I'm sure they won't). Imo it's needless to say that the trailer already looks a million times better than all the GTA IV stuff R* has ever brought to us. As I said, my prediction is that GTA V will make a huge impact. I don't see a strong tendency in terms of COD beating future records either. The kids (aka Activision's primary income source) that have been playing it nowadays will eventually grow up, which will cause the COD population to shrink by 50% unless new plague wave reinforcements arrive quickly. By the time they do, I don't think the game will be that popular anymore, unless Activision thinks of an entirely new concept which will be able to maintain the popularity of COD at a high level. Likely? Not so much.

By the time they do, I don't think the game will be that popular anymore, unless Activision thinks of an entirely new concept which will be able to maintain the popularity of COD at a high level. Likely? Not so much. The comment of mine you quoted wasn't specifically meant for SA; in fact, quite the opposite. Both GTA III and GTA VC each outsold GTA IV. Personally, I wouldn't go so far as to say those are better. More innovative for their time? Sure. Better? It's debatable. I don't think youtube views counts mean much. Rebecca Black's "Friday" had 50 million plus views... that doesn't make it good by any means. Nor does it for any of the other stupid videos with massive view counts. I certainly would like to see GTA V outsell everything, but I just doubt it will. Another example is the Final Fantasy games, if you look down the list, you'll see that almost all of the old ones (mostly on PS1, though the older stuff sold pretty well for its time) were some of the top selling games. Now the newer ones, just aren't selling as well. FF12 was the last really good selling one and that's behind three older games, two from PS1. FF 13, FF13-2, and FF14 have sold pretty poorly considering how well the series used to sell. I think it's just that after a number of sequels, games start to lose their charm regardless of how different they are. CoD has the top spot currently, and probably will keep it for a couple more years (not too many, I hope.) GTA... I think it's peak has passed. Not to say it won't still sell well or that it'll be worse and worse. But I've never seen a game series recover from losing it's spot on top. Mario used to have it, now he doesn't. Mario games still fly off the shelves, but they don't sell like they used to. My point is; (and I hope to be wrong) that GTA V will most likely not outsell CoD no matter how good it is. Oh, and something about FC3 as well.

GTA 3 and VC were original, and for their time much better than IV. Actually, I could still have more fun with VC than IV nowadays. I don't think youtube views counts mean much. Rebecca Black's "Friday" had 50 million plus views... that doesn't make it good by any means. All you have to do is have a look at how many dislikes that video has, and you'll find out that it's not comparable to GTA V by any means. I wasn't implying Youtube views make anything "good" though, they just tell how popular something is. And that song was sort of popular despite being the trash that it is. I think it's just that after a number of sequels, games start to lose their charm regardless of how different they are. CoD has the top spot currently, and probably will keep it for a couple more years (not too many, I hope.) COD's population: Casual gamers (~15%), noob kids (~45%), tryhard kids (20%), regular tryhards (10%) and fun gamers who like to mess around (10%). I'm something between the last two. COD surely has some positive sides, despite having a lot of negative stuff as well, and since Activision refuses to deal with some stuff that needs to be dealt with normally, the kids will always buy the game. You can't even call new CODs proper sequels anymore, in terms of MP at least (COD's primary selling point). This explains why COD is so popular, but this is also the reason why I think it'll go downhill faster than we might think. Even though I play COD on a regular basis, I don't believe it'll keep me playing it until COD 15. It's a kind of fun game until something entertaining comes out. I'm playing with full parties and it's quite fun to drop a MOAB on some noobs or give those filthy fucking campers a new haircut with my Juggernaut shield after ruining their streaks with an EMP; but I really don't think this will go on forever, infact I think MW3 or COD 9 will be the last CODs that sell this well. In other words: GTA V will hopefully set an end to this and break records with it's (also hopefully) epic comeback.

Hmm, I seriously doubt it's coming out in March. We've got February soon, and still no further news from Ubi since the first gameplay footage.
Several gamestores have also put 1st May/April/March as GTA V release date. Everyone knows it's not gonna happen, same with FC3 I think.

I noticed no one had updated the site, so I figured I'd do it for you Ubisoft have stated an official release date and trailer for Far Cry 3. The game is expected to arrive in stores September 7th this year. I don't know about you, but I sure am looking forward to this. It looks absolutely stunning! Far Cry 3 Stranded Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6gnOVJsCsMI hope they bring back the map editor, in that case I believe we're going to see some crazy shit! However, I think this game will be amazing without the editor, and I will be buying it, although I guess I will be spending far less time with the game if it offers no such editor. Until next time!
