Reality is where the pizzaman comes from.

« on: January 01, 2010, 08:25:30 PM »

Has anyone played this?

Story mode is shit, but the game is still good due to one reason: A map editor.
Note that the map editor is very hard to use and confusing. All I learned after messing around is how to place objects, items and vehicles.
I don't know how to paint textures on the landscape though. Sounds basic, but it is harder than you think. Of course, I don't know how to create AI either. :/

How are the controls?
Clean or glitchy?

The controls are fine. With your nanosuit you got different abilities that you can use while combat (maximum speed, maximum strength, maximum armor, cloak). They can all be toggled with 1 mouse klick.
Combat is easy going, just as controlling vehicles. You can use your scope while jumping, which is useful if you're good at aiming.
When you're under heavy fire it's useful to toggle maximum armor mode and press Q and E in order to perform bullet dodging maneuvers.

The single player game is good, u can decide on how to play missions, stealthy or rambo style, it's great fun.
But the editor is very glitchy and difficult, it crashes a lot, so I gave up on this after a few tries.

Hopefully crysis 2 will have a better editor, and from what i've seen it does Cheesy

SP sucks. Still too linear, no sign of free roaming gameplay at all. Even though you can take different paths...
I can't cope with it.

As for that editor, it is damn complicated indeed. I figured out some stuff, but no clue how to 1. paint textures 2. create AI 3. place MP spawn points.
The editor is also hardware hungry.

I just bought the complete set off ebay (Crysis, Warhead, Wars). Going to see what it's about and give the editor a try. See what we are getting into with Crysis 2  Wink

I played with the editor a bit this past week, learned how to paint textures, mod the terrain, vegetation, place items, etc. The editor is not simple, takes some time to learn all the settings and how to build maps. Reminds me a bit of the ChromeEd sandbox for CoJ.

It will take some time but I hope to get a custom SP level completed this summer.

I figured out how to place vegetation and other stuff, but no clue how to paint textures on the terrain. :/

It doesn't work...

Last time I messed around with it was 6 months ago though... I might want to get back into that.

Here's a tutorial I used to get the basics down. It covers all the stuff I mentioned.

You're using the Crysis editor?
Is this on PC or what?

What are the system requirements?

Yes, I bought it off ebay so I can get familiar with what's coming in Crysis2. I'm a little above the recommended requirements and haven't noticed any major lag, but it will use as much as it can.

Minimum Requirements

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista), Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2
GHz for Vista), AMD Athlon 2800+ (3200+ for Vista) or better
RAM: 1GB (1.5GB on Windows Vista)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or better
VRAM: 256MB of Graphics Memory
Storage: 12GB
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
ODD: DVD-ROM
OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista
DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10

Recommended Requirements

CPU: Core 2 Duo/Athlon X2 or better
RAM: 1.5GB
Video Card: NVIDIA 7800 Series, ATI Radeon 1800 Series or better
VRAM: 512MB of Graphics Memory
Storage: 12GB
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
ODD: DVD-ROM
OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista
DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10

Do you need a good computer to play this?

It looks like you need a fairly decent PC to run it.

Am I right in assuming that the Crysis PC sandbox editor is included in the free demo?
I'm thinking of grabbing it if so, in preparation for what we might see in Crysis 2.

Thanks for posting the link to that tutorial max, it will certainly be very useful Smiley
