This topic will be for all things Crysis 2...including news, game details, and discussion.

Official press release announcement:

Redwood City, Calif. – June 1, 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that it has agreed to a deal extension with Crytek GmbH, the award-winning developers of the Crysis® universe, to publish Crysis 2. Renowned for their technical excellence, artistic craftsmanship and commitment to quality, Crytek is building Crysis 2 on their new state-of-the-art multiplatform game development solution CryENGINE®3 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and the PC.

“The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”

“Nothing speaks more to the success of the EA Partners program than when a studio the caliber of Crytek continues to work with us,” said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners. “Crytek is already one of the elite PC development studios in the world and we are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them in bringing their award-winning technology and gameplay to more platforms and a wider audience with Crysis 2.”

Game Info

The world has been ravaged by a series of climatic disasters and society is on the verge of total breakdown.  Now the aliens have returned, with a full invasion force bent on nothing less than the total annihilation of mankind, starting by trying to rip the heart out of Earth's most iconic city.

In New York, terrifying alien invaders stalk the streets and a nightmare plague strikes down the city's myriad inhabitants with brutal epidemic speed.  The city's systems are in chaos, its streets and skyline are smashed and in flaming ruin. This is New York City like you've never seen it before.

Neither paramilitary law enforcement nor the might of the US military machine can stand against the invaders, and all who choose not to flee are dead men walking.  Just to survive in this maelstrom of death will require technology beyond anything any modern soldier has ever seen.

One man will inherit that means to survive. One supersoldier, wielding the combat enhancement technology of the future with Nanosuit 2, will make the last stand to save humanity from destruction in the urban jungle that is New York City.

I have no sound here at work, but I only had to watch 25 seconds of the last video here and now I know what my next game is going to be.
That map maker looks very impressive.  The water is amazing compared to FC2.
So does that mean that when you make maps on Crisis 2 that they will be available on all platforms?

I will setup a section for this game in its own board.

It's a bit confusing still because there's so little info about the game. The last two videos are CryEngine3 demos, not the sandbox editor that comes with Crysis 2. These promos are for game developers who want to license CE3 for creating a game. What we're seeing is how CE3 uses Live Create to make a game for all platforms simultaneously. These are the graphics and physics we can expect to see in Crysis 2.

While we're sure the PC version will have a sandbox editor, we don't have any idea what its capabilities will be yet. There's also no information on whether consoles will have any editor or not. We can only hope that there's some way to create custom levels and mods for use on the consoles.

from what i see u have to create a map via pc, but that is a bit annoying and hard to do. im guessing that the ce3 is too emense for consoles to have their own editor at this point. but who knows? well hsve2 wait until the game releases.

I just watched those videos again and... WOW!
Yeah, there's no way that editor is going to be on the console games.  That looks like takes far too much processing power.

it would stink that someone would have to buy a top-notch pc just to map edit.
but basically no editor on the ps3, no copy of crysis 2 for me. to tell the truth, it has bad gunplay. but its all just eyecandy

Any word about the map maker yet?  Are they going to simplify one for the console?

Well this has now been pushed back to early 2011. Slowly losing hope for this game to be anything but a rental for the PS3. Pretty sure I'll get it for PC though...

"Publisher Electronic Arts just announced in their Q1 FY11 Financial Results report that Crysis 2 release date window has moved to Q1 2011. So, now the estimated release date for Crysis 2 is January 1st - March 31st, 2011. While listening to the conference call we heard an EA representative justify the move because of better window and polishing."

Crysis 2 release date now Q1 2011

Once I heard "no map maker" I lost interest.  I'll try it out or watch the videos others post of the gameplay, but I'm not sure I'll get it unless it has a map maker.

No editor = not buying.
The game just doesn't look good enough in it's other areas to be worth getting without an editor.
Unless they have some awesome new feature that totally wins me over, this game is going off the list of games for me to buy.

I have to agree, the only reason I'd buy is because of the editor - oh well....there's always FC3  Grin
